How to connect remotely using your computer's name instead of IP
Summary
To ensure more reliable Remote Desktop connections, please use your computer name instead of the IP address when connecting remotely.
Why this matters
IP addresses can change, which may cause connection issues. Your computer name stays the same, making it the preferred and more reliable option.
What you need to do
When using Remote Desktop Connection, replace the IP address with your computer name in the following format:
- YourComputerName.office.smseng.com
- For example: SMS-PC-26-01-10.office.smseng.com
How to find your computer name:
- On your workstation, go to Settings
- Select System
- Click About
- Look for the "Full device name"(This is your computer name).
Your username remains the same , Office\username
Check the attachments for examples in Settings and Remote desktop connection.
